Hospitality Brokers 2018 Trends

Our Hospitality Brokers Look at Trends Coming in 2018

2017 seemed to fly by – and plenty of trends will fly by with it. That being said, there are plenty of great trends from 2017 that will stick around well into the future. Today, our hospitality brokers will highlight some of these trends that we foresee being long-term parts of the hotel experience. Of course, it’s also a new year, so there’s plenty of speculating to do. Our hospitality brokers also decided to do a break down of some 2018 trends we think will be exploding this year.

2017 Trends that Will Stick Around

In-Room Tech

In-room technology really took hold in 2017. More hotels than ever implemented things like Smart TVs and smart speakers. This gave guests a sense of personalization and made them feel more at home. They could log into their Netflix account or ask their virtual assistant to order food. These devices are only getting more intuitive, so our hospitality brokers don’t see any reason they’d be going away in the near future.

Craft and Local Foods

Food trends were big this year, and the biggest trends were offering craft food and drinks and locally sourced food. Craft coffee, craft beer, and craft everything else dominated the wants of hotel guests. Also, guests wanted their food to be local. Locally sourcing food means that it’s fresh, but it also means that guests get a taste of the local flavor, as well as help bolster the local economy. Really it’s a win-win for guests and for you, the hotel owner. Our hospitality brokers don’t see this trend going anywhere – if anything, it will probably just continue to get bigger in 2018.

New Trends to Pay Attention to

Design that Tells a Story

In 2017, good design became a big deal. Many big midscale hotel franchises underwent huge brand overhauls to give their hotel interiors a facelift. In 2018, we’ll be seeing an even bigger focus placed on design. Guests want designs that tell a story. What does this mean? It means they want the hotel to have a distinct design aesthetics that shows you what kind of hotel you’re staying at, instead of telling you. Everything from your color palette to the artwork on your wall should be carefully curated.

Wellness Takes Over

The wellness trend has been finding its footing the past few years, but our hospitality brokers think 2018 is the year it will really explode. People are concerned about their health and wellness, and they expect their hotels to accommodate that. This means more than just offering a place for guests to exercise. Many hotels are adding spas so that their guest can truly relax on vacation. Adding health food options like juice bars is also getting more and more popular, as well as having organic menus in your restaurant and organic food in room service. There are tons of ways to implement the wellness trend.
