Create an Engaging Hotel Blog

Most hotels have a website, and that’s an important part of having an online presence, but not all hotel websites have a dedicated blog. This is definitely a missed opportunity. There’s a ton of reasons why a blog can help drive traffic to your website and potentially bring in more customers. Today in the Southeast International Hotel Brokers blog, we’ll talk about those reasons.

Why Should You Have a Blog?

Having a hotel blog is a good idea for several reasons. Here are a few:

Inform Guests

A blog can tell guests what’s going on at your hotel. You can post things like upcoming events and discounted room rates. You can also use your blog as a platform to tell potential customers things they might not have known about your hotel, like the fact that you have space for events and conferences. You don’t always want to clutter up your website with pages that shouldn’t be permanent, and a blog is a good way to do this.

It’s Good for Your SEO

SEO, or search engine optimization, is important for hotels. You want your hotel to show up in Google search results organically and rank high. Creating a blog with relevant, authoritative content is one way to do this. Just make sure you do some keyword research to find out what people in your area are searching, so you can direct your content based on that. You should try to do at least one blog per week if you want to increase your authority.

Drive Bookings

If you make engaging blogs, you might be able to drive bookings through them. A blog about an exciting event or amenity at your hotel might interest someone enough to click through to a booking page and make a reservation. Just make sure you include links in your blog to make it easy for them to get to a booking page.

How to Make it More Engaging

Writing a blog isn’t exactly the most difficult thing to do, but it can be hard making it engaging. If your copy is dry and boring, people won’t be interested in reading it. Here are some ways to make it more engaging.

Have Fun With It

Hotels are meant to be relaxing and fun. Make sure your writing style is a little fun too. If you come across too stiff, people might just ignore your blog. A fun style lends itself well to hotel blogs, so make sure you lean into that tone.

Include Social Media

You can engage people further by linking your blog through social media. This way, anyone who is browsing your social media platforms will see your blog post and possibly click on it.

Write Blogs People Care About

Make sure your content is interesting. People probably don’t want to read “Check Out the New Shade of Paint in Our Lobby.” Instead of something like “Five New Dishes to Try at Our Restaurant,” is bound to get more people reading it.

Of course, if creating a blog isn’t something you have time for, you can always hire an outside agency or hire a professional internally to take care of this for you.
